2018, Goldenbelt, Durham NC
Mixed media sculpture, 6' x 8.5' x 6"
Materials: hair, cotton fiber, Civil War cannon wheels, lawnmower wheels
This work was part of Johnston's solo exhibition in early 2018, Adorable Violence. Both the fiber elements and the found objects have histories that are unknown. The piece explores how cotton and hair fiber, weave together testing the strength of bonds between materials and exposing their dynamic relationship with found metal objects. A constellation of human and historical connection.
