Cultural Techniques aims to explore traditional women's’ work and the tradition of craft, utilizing fibers woven together, hand-dyed and collected en masse. Johnston’s grandmother was a seamstress in Los Angeles in the 1950s. This collection of work seeks to build a bridge of understanding between the artist and her family’s own personal history with fiber.
Debuting in the solo show in June 2018, this work was selected by juror Leslie Moumaine from Target Gallery to be part of the Durham Art Guild's 64th Annual Juried Exhibition in August 2018.
